On-Campus VS Remote Learning Update
about 5 years ago, Broaddus I.S.D.
BROADDUS INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT P.O. Box 58.215 Buchanan. Broaddus, Texas 75929. Phone: 936.872.3041 - Fax: 936.872.3699 July 9, 2020, The 2020-2021 school year is set to begin on August 12th and we are preparing to educate our students in multiple ways. The circumstances that led to an abrupt end to how we operate last spring are still present today. With that said, we will strive to ensure that we offer outstanding educational services to our students no matter what the circumstances may be. Thank you for your patience and support! In order to meet the educational, health, and safety needs of our school community, we will offer both "on-campus learning" and "remote learning" options. More details will be provided as we get closer to the start of the new school year; however, we would like to share a summary of cach option so that parents/guardians can make an informed decision for their child(ren): On-Campus Learning Remote Learning In school facilities 100% online learning at home Daily health protocols Daily attendance required Teacher providing instruction daily Reliable internet needed/Packets 90% attendance rule in effect 90% attendance rule in effect For the duration of the school day Mirror the on-campus school day Parents/guardians should select an option they feel is best for their child. We sent out a preliminary survey a few days ago; however, in early August, parents/guardians must officially make a choice of on-campus or remote learning. Remote learning last spring was a reaction to a global pandemic. Remote learning during the 2020-2021 school year will be much more structured, will involve more rigorous requirements, and the same requirements as on-campus. Once the learning environment is selected, a student must remain in that method for the entirety of the 6-weeks grading period. While these are unprecedented times for public education, together we can make this year a safe and successful year for our students and school community “A TRADITION OF EXCELLENCE"

Upcoming School Year 2020-2021 Broaddus ISD Parents/Guardians: BISD is very excited about the upcoming school year. The COVID-pandemic has completely changed the world that we live in and BISD is confident about resuming school. As a district, every discussion has been carefully thought out for the safety of our students and staff to provide a safe physical and emotional environment in which to learn and work at BISD. There are still a lot of unknowns but we are planning on maneuvering between the current state that we live in and what may happen throughout the school year. Here are the actions that have taken place so far: Safe Environment: 1. Using our (2) Clorox Total 360 System electrostatic sprayers to disinfect our facilities. 2. Emergency Operation Meeting Information
about 5 years ago, Broaddus I.S.D.
BROADDUS INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT P.O. Box 58.215 Buchanan. Broaddus, Texas 75929. Phone: 936.872.3041 - Fax: 936.872.3699 Parents and Community, On October 8, 2019, BISD hosted an Emergency Operation meeting to review Emergency Operations Plans which are a requirement of federal and state laws. The attendees at the meeting were local law enforcement, county officials, EMT, Fire Department, the mayor, SAISD, BISD administration, and other community members. There were several discussions regarding student safety, response time, and budgets to help ensure safety in each school district and to have procedures put in place to resolve an incident after it occurs. There were different concerns, for BISD, that were brought up during the meeting including: 1. the multiple access points of BISD, 2. limited resources available to help before, during, or after a crisis, 3. and response time. The action plan to resolve the issues was to procure federal safety funds from the county to install gates throughout the district to help maintain order before, during, and/or after an incident. With the help of all emergency agencies working together in the county to help improve safety for the students of Broaddus ISD, we were able to accomplish a safer environment for our students. Also, after multiple discussions with the board of trustees and superintendent, the board approved to establish a police department in the district. This means, that this coming school year and years to come, BISD will have a police officer in the district. The district has recently opened this position for applicants. Broaddus ISD is and will continue to improve our school and our community by uniting together to create a place that we call HOME. If you have any questions or would like to volunteer for any of our community Outreach committees, please feel free to contact the school at 936.872.3041. Sincerely yours, Lucas Holloway BISD Superintendent "A TRADITION OF EXCELLENCE"

COVID-19 Update
about 5 years ago, Broaddus I.S.D.
BROADDUS INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT P.O. Box 58.215 Buchanan. Broaddus, Texas 75929. Phone: 936.872.3041 - Fax: 936.872.3699 Updates for School Year 2020-2021 Dear Bulldogs As you may be aware, the Commissioner of the Texas Education Agency, Mike Morath, announced Thursday, "It will be safe for Texas public school students, teachers, and staff to return to school campuses for in-person instruction this fall." While there will continue to be guidance from the state we are making plans to bring our students back in August, Broaddus ISD has been working hard to ensure that we can educate our students at our usual high rigor while providing a safe environment for our students. We have many projects going on in our district to help ensure that safety. What's New for the 2020-2021 school year? 1. We are planning for different scenarios for returning to school for in-person, home learning, and a mixture of the two to best educate our students. 2. We are replacing all of the carpets in the main hallways and cafeteria at the High School with epoxy flooring. 3. Broaddus ISD will implement a policy that follows the CDC guidelines for best health practices. 4. We will be increasing intervention for all students to help bridge the learning gaps from the pandemic. 5. There have been NO major changes to our school calendar for the 2020-2021 school year. Please visit our website, www.broaddusisd.com, for our calendar. School supply lists will be posted here in early July. I urge all of us to remain patient and optimistic about the future plans for our community and school district. We hope to have you more information as soon as we have the plans in place and the district receives more information but for now, I am excited about the start of a new school year. Thank you for your continued patience, Lucas Holloway BISD Superintendent "A TRADITION OF EXCELLENCE"
