Bond 2023 Updates

On May 6, 2023, voters supported a $13.5 million package to improve Broaddus ISD facilities. Our district is grateful for the continued trust and support of our community, and want to be as transparent as possible during the construction and renovation of critically-needed facilities. The money provided to us will be used for:

  • The Administration building

  • Our Gymnasium

  • Updated Transportation/maintenance facility (Bus Barn)

  • Improved Paving

  • New Energy-efficiency initiatives

  • Safety and security projects

Approximately $1,000,000 of the bond will go towards items like paying the Architect's fees, engineering fees, etc. Everything else will go towards our district projects.

Administration Building

Why did the district propose this change, and what can the community expect to see?

The Administration Office is over a mile away from both High School and Elementary Campuses, and some district employees are located at campuses instead of the district office. By building a new facility in front of the High School Ag Shop, we can add roughly 2,300 square feet to the building. This space will be designated for new offices, a Council Meeting room, a Conference Room, and new storage. All employees will also be housed at the Administration Office, increasing safety and security for students and employees. Estimated cost is $540,000.

Gymnasium

Why did the district propose this change, and what can the community expect to see?

Our current gymnasium is in need of updates, and seats roughly 400 people. When multiple events are happening on the same day, it can become difficult to accommodate all students and guests. The new gym will hold between 600-800 people, and have new areas like a student section, weight room and coaches' offices, a concession stand, and even a Bulldog Team store! We will convert portions of the existing gymnasium into additional classroom space, and the district will be able to host more events. Estimated cost is $9,860,000.

Transportation/Maintenance Building

Why did the district propose this change, and what can the community expect to see?

Our current bus barn is over a mile away from our elementary and high school campuses. Our proposed structure will be located behind the high school and Ag building, making it easier for our drivers to reach our students. The new building will add additional storage space, and include separate shop and wash bay areas to help us maintain our busses. Our transportation staff will also have an office space to better meet their day-to-day needs. Estimated cost is $800,000.

Paving Improvements

Why did the district propose this change, and what can the community expect to see?

With improvements to the gymnasium and the relocation of district facilities, we did not want to burden the high school staff, guardians, and students by competing for parking spaces. We will add roughly 100 new spaces near the gymnasium and bus barn. Additionally we will add two new drives connecting the High School and Elementary Campuses. Our goal is to make transportation and parking safer and easier for our families and visitors. Estimated cost is $1,300,000.
