Upcoming School Year 2020-2021 Broaddus ISD Parents/Guardians: BISD is very excited about the upcoming school year. The COVID-pandemic has completely changed the world that we live in and BISD is confident about resuming school. As a district, every discussion has been carefully thought out for the safety of our students and staff to provide a safe physical and emotional environment in which to learn and work at BISD. There are still a lot of unknowns but we are planning on maneuvering between the current state that we live in and what may happen throughout the school year. Here are the actions that have taken place so far: Safe Environment: 1. Using our (2) Clorox Total 360 System electrostatic sprayers to disinfect our facilities. 2. There have been (5) Infrared Body Temperature Detectors purchased that will be placed in certain areas to monitor temperatures throughout the district. 3. Removal of carpet in the High School hallways and cafeteria and replacing it with epoxy floors. 4. Relocation of the High School entrance and Visitor parking to the Southside of the High School and installing a security wall inside the High School. Education Each parent/guardian will have the option to select the type of learning environment that the student will be receiving for the 2020-2021 school year. There will be two types of learning environments: Traditional Learning (face-to-face) and Remote Learning (at home learning asynchronous, at their peace but staying on track each day). If a parent/guardian does not choose, the student will be placed in a traditional learning setting. Each parent/guardian will have between July 20th-July 31st to select the learning environment, you can select the process by visiting our website and completing the form or by coming to the school. Once selected, the method chosen will be provided for at least one semester, unless pandemic alters the education setting. BISD has been meeting the needs of our students and will continue to meet the needs of our students. The district has: 1. Purchased over 300 Chromebooks so that we will be able to provide one computer to each student. We have also purchased software for students to access all online learning programs instantaneously. 2. New ELAR Curriculum for High School students and course offerings. 3. Purchased a NEW intensive curriculum for all Elementary students to enrich and fill in the learning gaps from the COVID pandemic. 4. Changed Elementary/Jr. High/High School master schedules to maximize student learning and promote social distancing.
